How to Play Against an Online Live Baccarat Dealer

Baccarat and James Bond:

Online Live Baccarat is the virtual form of James Bond’s favourite casino game. Baccarat is a game that was most likely invented in the 15th century in Italy. The agent 007 has immortalised the game in many movies and made Baccarat widely famous.

There are three main variants of the Baccarat card game – Punto Banco, Chemin de Fer, and Baccarat Banque – but the main aim of the game is to win by successfully betting on the player’s or banker’s hand.

Once the wagers are complete, the dealer releases two cards to the players, and the values are totalled, with the hand that is closest to 9 winning. A third card can be drawn depending on the points reached by the player or the dealer.

Differences between Baccarat and Blackjack

Baccarat appears similar to Blackjack, but in reality, they have many differences. The main is the way scores are calculated. Normal cards are played at their face value while the Ace is always worth one. Tens and royal cards are worth zero. Should the value of the cards exceed ten, then the second digit is counted as the score. For example, 7 and 8 will equal 15 to make a hand worth five points. In punto banco – the most popular form of baccarat – the house edge (margin) is generally 1.24% on the player bet and 1.06% on the dealer bet. On the other hand, the tie bet can give a house edge up to 14.4%.

There are many strategies and tips available that will help develop your style and raise your level of Baccarat play.

Becoming a Baccarat Superstar

If you have never played live baccarat at a land-based casino or online before, in this article you find a complete guide with tips and strategies on how to become a Baccarat superstar.

There is no need anymore to get on a plane and visit some distant faraway land-based casino because we bring Online Live Baccarat tables to your home. Whether you enjoy playing Baccarat on your mobile or at home with your PC, get ready to learn and understand the rules of the game.

How do you play Online Live Baccarat?

The first thing you need to do is place a bet on either the Banker, the Player, or a Tie. Every turn of the card is related to a number of rules that are laid out on the table for everyone to check and see. The banker releases two more cards to each side. The player with the number closest to 9 wins. In some special cases, the game moves on and includes a third card.

Baccarat card values

Card values in baccarat are very simple and easy to remember.

· Number cards 2 – 9: These cards are worth exactly the same as the face value, i.e. a 5 of hearts is worth 5 points

· 10 and face cards: These cards are worth zero points. Face cards are the Jack, Queen, and King

· Aces: Aces are worth 1 point.

Hand values are based on the last digit of the sum of all the card values. For example, a player is dealt a 4 and a 9. Together, these add up to 13. The last digit is 3 so that is the value of the hand. In baccarat, the suits of the cards dealt do not count.

Baccarat actions: Draws and stands

There are two actions that players can do in baccarat – draw (hit) or stand. When a player decides to draw, an additional card is dealt, bringing the total hand size up to three cards. This is also called a hit, i.e. when we say that the player hit for a card, it means the player requested an additional card from the dealer.

When a player stands, it indicates they do not wish to draw another card and want to proceed with the game and keep the current value of their hand.

There are rules for when a player can draw a third card or stand, and those are different for the banker and the player.

How does a third card work in Online Live Baccarat?

There are some special circumstances when a third card is dealt. This happens in the following scenarios:

· If the Player’s hand equals 5 or less, a third card is dealt. The same applies to the Banker.

· If the total is 2, the Banker will draw another card regardless of what the Player’s third card is.

· If the total is 3, the Banker draws a third card unless the Player’s third card is an 8.

· If there’s a 4, the Banker draws unless the Player’s third card is a 0, 1, 8, or 9.

· If the Banker has 5, they draw if the Player’s third card is a 4, 5, 6, or 7.

· If the Banker has a 6, then they draw a third card provided that the Player’s third card is a 6 or 7.

· If the Banker’s total is 7, then they stand.

It would be a good idea to keep these rules in mind as well as the Live Baccarat cheat sheet to give you a better understanding of how the game works and to maximise your winnings.

Player’s hand

The player’s hand determines how the game proceeds, and the Banker’s actions depend on whether the player decides to draw or stand. The rules for the player’s actions are pretty simple:

· If the player has an initial total of 5 or less, they draw a third card.

· If the player has a total of 6 or 7, they stand.

Banker’s hand

The player always takes the first action and the Banker’s reaction and options are always linked to the player’s action. If the player chooses to stand (i.e. has two cards), the Banker follows the same initial rules as the player.

This means that if the Banker has a hand value from 0 to 5, they draw a card, otherwise, if the value is 6 or 7, they stand.

If the player asks for a third card, the rules the Banker has to follow are:

· If the Banker’s total is 2 or less, the Banker draws a card every time

· If the Banker’s total is 3, the Banker draws unless the Player’s third card was an 8

· If the Banker’s total is 4, the Banker draws if the Player’s third card was a 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7

· If the Banker’s total is 5, the Banker draws if the Player’s third card was 4, 5, 6 or 7

· If the Banker’s total is 6, the Banker draws if the Player’s third card was a 6 or 7

· If the Banker’s total is 7, the Banker stands every time

What are the rules for Live Baccarat?

The main aim of this game is to guess whether the banker or the player’s hand will be closest to the total points value of 9. All 10-value cards count as 0, while aces count as 1. The hand with the highest points value closest to the number 9 wins the game.

No hand can go over 9 points. A “natural” is a 2-card total of 9 and can never lose. An 8 is the second-best hand possible and is also called a natural. If both the banker and the player are dealt the same hand, there is a tie. Neither wins in this case.

You don’t receive cards to play against the dealer here. Your aim is to guess which hand will beat the other by coming as close as possible to the points value of 9.

The game starts when both the player and the banker each receive 2 cards. And then in some cases, as explained above, there is a chance of a third card being dealt to the banker and/or the player.

Baccarat betting types

As we learnt, the winning hand in Baccarat is the one closest to the value of 9. When a player’s first two cards have a value of 8 or 9, these are called ‘naturals’ and are automatically considered the winning hand. A 4 and a 5 or an 8 and a 10 are two examples of how a natural hand is formed.

Sometimes, the Banker’s and Player’s hands are of equal value and this result is called a Tie. If the player bets on the Tie outcome, they win.

There are three options a player can bet on in a game of baccarat, excluding any side bets. To keep things simple, we will be sticking to the standard bets for now and explaining what each one is all about.

Betting on Player

When a player bets on the Player, they are essentially making a bet on their hand beating the Banker’s. If the player’s hand is closer to 9 than the Banker’s, this is a win and the player will receive a 1:1 payout.

The house edge on a Player bet is 1.24%, which remains the same whether you are playing with 6 or 8 decks. If you are playing with a single deck, which is quite impossible, the house edge would be 1.29%.

Betting on Banker

The Banker bet is the most popular with players because the house edge is lower than the Player bet and much lower than the Tie bet. In a 6 or 8 deck game, the house edge is 1.06%. It is 1.01% in a single deck game (so very competitive for the player).

The Banker bet pays out 19:20, which is almost even money but what changes this is the house commission, which is around 5%. This is implemented to get an edge and because of this bet’s popularity with players due to the higher likelihood.

Betting on Tie

The Tie outcome is the most unlikely, but it is still popular because of the high payout of 8:1. It is so rare because it requires the Player’s and Banker’s hands to have the same card value.

The house edge on a Tie bet is, predictably, very high. In a 6-deck game, it is 14.44%. In an 8-deck game, it is 14.36%. In a single deck game, it is even higher at 15.75%.

Side bets in Online Live Baccarat

There are several possible side bets in Baccarat, but it is the decision of the casino/game developer which ones will be offered. In standard Baccarat, there are three possible bets, but below are a few examples of side bets that are possible in variant games:

· Dragon Bonus: This is a bet on the size of the disparity between the winning and losing hand. The higher the win disparity, the bigger the payout. For example, a player might bet on a win disparity of 8, which means that the winning and losing hands must be at least 8 points apart.

· Even/Odd: This is a set of four side bets based on whether the final card values of the two hands are odd or even.

· Big and Small: This is a bet on the total number of cards in play, determined by the player’s action to hit or stand. If there are 4 cards on the table at the end of the game, the Small bet wins. If there are 5 or 6 cards on the table at the end, the Big bet wins.

Pair Bets

When making a pair bet, the Player chooses either their own hand or the Banker’s and makes a bet on that hand being formed of a matching pair. The player can choose to bet on getting a pair themselves, the Banker getting a pair, or both getting a pair.

The bet doesn’t specify the value of the cards, which can be two 10s, two 5s, two Aces, or any other value – only that a pair is dealt. Remember, suits don’t matter in baccarat, so the suits of the dealt cards are irrelevant.

Generally speaking, casinos payout at 11:1 on this bet, which has a house edge of 10.36% and 11.25% for 8 and 6 deck games, respectively.
